We're always on the look out for great value and exciting new discoveries, and we've found another with Marlborough superstars Fromm Winery. Having always been highly rated by James Suckling who has variously described them as among the leaders of NZ Pinot Noir, Vinous' Rebecca Gibb MW recently published a report on the region and Fromm are clearly among the Kiwi elite, with scores up to 95 points!

Based in the Southern Valleys in Marlborough, Fromm was established in the 90s, undergoing organic conversion in 2005, and has rapidly developed a cult reputation for its range of single vineyard reds & whites. Winemaking is Burgundian, with little more than 3,000 cases produced annually. The vineyards are farmed by hand, grapes hand-picked, whilst in the winery they use wild yeasts, aging in Burgundian oak barrels, bottling with no fining or filtration and minimal sulphur. The resultant wines combine all the elegance, structure and suaveness of Burgundy yet with that signature plushness of NZ fruit, making them very attractive indeed.

The Pinot was a team favourite in the office, almost Corton-like in its power & intensity, with the structure for long-term cellaring. This is a really special Pinot and comes at half the price of what you would pay in Burgundy. The Chardonnay is also a stunner, again with impressive power & depth, yet there is coolness and restraint here too. Also a 95-pointer, good luck finding better value Chardonnay at £156.50 per six pack... The wines are available for immediate delivery by the bottle and are drinking wonderfully now, though both have room for even further development.
